Mining Engineering have a long history in Iran. The existence of various types of abandoned metallic and non-metallic mines dating back several thousand years is clear evidence of this. With the establishment of Dar al-Funon in 1851 (1230 shamsi), the education of mining science in Iran began scientifically, and in 1934 (1313shamsi), with the establishment of the University of Tehran, the mining engineering major was launched by Professor Hesabi. The Mining Engineering Department of Urmia University of Technology began its educational activities in 2008 by accepting students at the undergraduate level and is currently continuing its educational activities by accepting students at the undergraduate level and at the graduate level with a major in extraction of minerals. The number of faculty members of this engineering department is 9. The undergraduate course of this major is planned to be 8 semesters. Also in master program, graduate student should study about 32 credits courses in 4 semesters. It should be pointed out; in 2023 the department of Mining engineering has qualified for accepting international students in master program and Now 5 international students are studying in our department. Dr. Rashed Pourmirzaee is the head of department of Mining Engineering.
