Department of Textile Engineering
Undoubtedly, the textile and clothing industry has been among the largest, the most vital, and oldest industries that have ever existed and continue to attract a great deal of attention at various levels in many countries and major economies because of its high employment potential and great industrial, economic, and social roles. The various advantages include job creation, foreign exchange earnings, national wealth creation, lower investments required than other applications, and the added value it brings. It has triggered many countries to start their industrializations through the textile and apparel industry.
Textile Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the design, manufacturing, and application of textiles and associated materials. This academic field integrates concepts from engineering, materials science, chemistry and also art and design to innovate and optimize textile materials for various products. Textile Engineering holds great importance with respect to various applications enabling contributions into clothing, automotive, health care, and construction where performance and function issues require advanced materials. The scope of textile applications is vast, from traditional clothing through technical textiles for medical devices, protective shields, geotextiles, cosmetic textiles, composites, tissue engineering, and so on. Furthermore, the advent of smart textiles, which incorporate technology for enhanced functionality, showcases the innovative potential within this field. Thus, Textile Engineering not only plays a vital role in economic development but also acts as a catalyst for technological advancement and sustainable techniques within this subject. This makes it a promising area of study for those eager to influence the future of materials and manufacturing. In this regard, the primary mission of Textile Engineering Department at Urmia University of Technology is to train skilled graduates and experts in various branches of textile engineering, such as textile technology, textile chemistry, fiber science, technical textiles, and apparel in order to effectively contribute to the scientific development and improvement of society. This comprehensive approach ensures that graduates are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to address the challenges faced by the textile industry and to promote innovation and sustainability within the field.
The Textile Engineering at Urmia University of Technology was established in 2016 at the undergraduate level, and in October 2017, the first group of Textile Engineering students began their studies in this field.
